Lucknow: Anuruddh Kumar, a trainee at La Martiniere Lawn Tennis Facility and one of Uttar Pradesh’s promising young tennis players, delivered an outstanding performance to secure a remarkable double title at the AITA CS-7 Under-18 Boys’ and Girls’ Tennis Tournament. He emerged champion in both the boys’ singles and boys’ doubles events, while fellow La Martiniere trainee Aashi Shamsheri captured the girls’ singles title.
Organized by SDS Tennis Academy at the La Martiniere Lawn Tennis Facility, the tournament concluded on Friday with three thrilling finals marked by impressive upsets and high-quality tennis.
In the boys’ singles final, second seed Anuruddh Kumar stunned top seed Faiz Kidwai of Uttar Pradesh with a convincing 6-2, 6-4 victory. Displaying an excellent all-round game, Anuruddh maintained pressure throughout the match with accurate groundstrokes, aggressive returns, and consistent court coverage.
Anuruddh continued his winning run in the boys’ doubles final, partnering Vanshraj Jalota. The second-seeded duo upset top seeds Faiz Kidwai and Meher Singh Khosla in a closely contested encounter, winning 7-5, 3-6, 10-8 in the super tiebreak. After taking the opening set through superior coordination and net play, Anuruddh and Vanshraj fought back strongly in the deciding tiebreak to seal the title with composed and determined tennis.
In the girls’ singles final, seventh seed Aashi Shamsheri of Uttar Pradesh defeated second seed Manusmriti Singh of Madhya Pradesh 6-1, 6-4 to claim the championship. Aashi dominated the match with powerful serves and precise shot-making, maintaining control from the outset.
Notably, both boys’ singles finalists, the boys’ doubles finalists, and girls’ singles champion Aashi Shamsheri are trainees of the La Martiniere Lawn Tennis Facility, underlining the academy’s growing reputation as a hub for nurturing young tennis talent.
The prizes were distributed by chief guest Deepak Pathak, Treasurer of SDS. Other dignitaries present at the closing ceremony included Rahul Agarwal, Vikas Mulchandani, Shobhit Tandon, Chetna Shamsheri, Ratan Sharma (Director Coaching, SDS), Manish Srivastava, Tournament Coordinator Abhishek Vikram Singh, and Tournament Referee Amritanjay.
